CONVERGENCE
Color is central to this work, reflecting the ever-shifting spectrum revealed as sunlight transforms the landscape, moving from vibrancy to quiet restraint within moments. First presented at the Naples Botanical Garden during the COVID period, the exhibition became an unexpected place of refuge, offering vitality and elevation as viewers sought connection with nature and light.
Color has always been central to my practice, and in this body of work it became a means of witnessing nature’s continual transformation. I sought to capture the shifting spectrum reflected back to us as sunlight imposes its changing structure upon the landscape, moving from vibrancy to quietude within the span of a single day, sometimes within moments. These fluctuations are not incidental; they reveal nature’s rhythm, its impermanence, and its capacity for renewal.
Florida has offered a remarkable environment in which to observe this phenomenon. The quality of light, the saturation of color, and the immediacy of the natural world are present here daily, and I have had the privilege of experiencing these conditions firsthand. The work draws directly from this sustained exposure, translating the state’s luminous intensity into a visual language shaped by observation and response.
This series was first presented at the Naples Botanical Garden during the height of the COVID period. What I anticipated would be a quiet exhibition instead became a place of gathering and refuge. As people sought relief outdoors, drawn to open air, light, and living color, the work resonated in unexpected ways. The paintings offered not escape, but elevation: moments of visual vitality amid restriction, affirming the restorative power of nature and the essential role of beauty during periods of collective constraint.
